How that makes you look

Let’s think about this hypothetical scenario:

Please note that these two example minorities will be changed regularly to ensure there is no bias.

A Muslim person gets kicked out of a club for being Muslim.

That is obviously bad.

Many Muslims protest, saying how getting kicked out of a club just because you are a minority is a HORRIBLE thing to happen.

Protesting is the correct thing to do.

Two weeks later, a Hispanic person gets kicked out of a club for being Hispanic.

In this hypothetical scenario, this is followed

by silence from the Muslim community.

This makes the Muslim community look quite disingenuous.

It looks like the Muslims didn’t really believe that getting kicked out of the club was bad. It looks like they only cared about their own minority group and didn’t care if THE EXACT SAME THING happened to someone else. It seems the Muslims are saying “I don’t care as long as it happens to some other group”.

This is obviously not a good look and will make people take Muslims less seriously next time they have a legitimate grievance.

We must do better!

Once again please note that this can be true for any minority - and we will be changing the minority for this example on a regular basis!

Questions for the Reader:

  • Do you care when other people are victims of prejudice?

  • Do you only care about your own group?

  • If you only care about your own group, does that make you prejudiced?

  • Are you concerned that other people will view you that way?

Let's flip this around

Just like we want democrats to condemn when a democrat does something bad and we also want republicans to condemn when a republicans does something bad, we want YOU to condemn when someone in your "group" does something wrong.

Please have the strength and ‘morality’ to do that.  You will be taken much more seriously if you do so.
